Richard Royal - Managing Director

Lionheart's MD is Richard Royal, an experienced public affairs and political consultant who has won national awards for his impactful campaigns.

Richard has held senior public affairs and communications roles within major organisations including renewables company Vivergo Fuels; major soft drinks manufacturer Britvic; betting & gaming retailers Ladbrokes; national trade bodies the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Food & Drink Federation; and within a PR agency specialising in stakeholder engagement for planning and licensing issues. In 2017 he won the national Public Affairs Award for the campaign to introduce E10 petrol and amending the Government's renewable transport fuels targets.

At national and local Government level, Richard has worked in the House of Commons as an MP's press advisor; as Campaigns Manager to a current Government Minister; in Export Licensing for the Department of Trade & Industry (now BEIS); and as energy strategy lead for Humber LEP. He also stood for Parliament at the 2015 General Election.

In his leisure time Richard is a competitive swimmer who has represented Great Britain at the World and European Masters Championships. He holds three open water swimming World Records - as the first person to swim from the Principality of Sealand to the UK (for which he was knighted by the micronation); the fastest person to swim across the River Humber; and the first to make a two-way Humber swim.
